Editorial Reviews :
The Xbox Adrenaline Pack is designed to show off the power of the Xbox. It includes the Xbox game system, adventure game Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, science fiction combat game Halo, and hand-to-hand martial arts game Dead or Alive 3. We've also included an additional Xbox controller so you can play your games with a friend, and a six-month subscription to Electronic Gaming Monthly so you can keep up on the latest game news, reviews, and previews.
Take the power and flexibility of a dedicated computer gaming system and combine it with the easy-to-use, instant-on format of a high-end console system and what do you get? Well, if you also add in DVD playback ability and broadband Internet connectivity, you get Xbox.

The advanced components inside Xbox make it the undisputed powerhouse among current game consoles. A 733 MHz Intel main processor and 233 MHz graphics processor from industry leader nVidia deliver photorealistic graphics in real time. A cavernous hard drive stores saved games and characters, making flimsy memory sticks obsolete. The built-in Ethernet port enables super-fast multiplayer online gaming over a broadband Internet connection. Four game controller ports allow you and three of your buddies to play at the same time, or you can use them for other peripherals such as gamepads, light guns, voice-activated headsets, and who knows what else?

But Xbox has more going for it than fancy innards. The Xbox's Windows-based operating system is a breeze to program on, earning it grateful accolades from Electronic Arts, Infogrames, THQ, and other game producers. The less time developers spend struggling with the operating system means the more time they spend tweaking gameplay, which ultimately results in better games. And games are what it's all about.

Well, games and the fun of owning a green-glowing game console that looks like it came from Darth Vader's living room.

Buyer Reviews :
XBOX is worth getting just to play Halo by itself. It's the best game on any console that I've played and a pure technological marvel. It is a mouth-openingly intense and immersive experience. In addition, the XBOX features some noticeable advantages over the PS2, namely, HDTV support, in-game DD 5.1 support, and built-in broadband port for online gaming. Granted many users will have to shell out even more money to take advantage of these features but there is room for expansion if you're a home entertainment enthusiast. The latter is especially important because the next big battle in console gaming will be fought online. XBOX smartly chose to feature built-in ethernet instead of out-of-the-box DVD support. PS2 users will have shell out extra dough for their external HD and ethernet port to play online.

On the downside, the controllers are a little big and the top two buttons are almost impossible to reach with your thumb with the precision and speed you need in most video games. The analogs are nice (better than Dualshock 2 IMO) and the vibration motors are very well done. I actually leave the vibration on whereas I always turn them off for Dualshock 2.

So far I have DOA3 and Halo for my system. From what I've seen, most of the multi-platform games such the EA sports series are as good on the XBOX or even better with the minor graphical tweaks. You miss out on PS2 exclusives such as GT3 and FFX but then again PS2 doesn't have Halo.

One side note- the XBOX is considerably bigger and heavier than the PS2 and the Gamecube which makes carrying them during airplane trips kind of a pain.

In all, this is a great system and a pretty good value if you consider all its power and features. Obviously there are many more quality games on the PS2 right now but if the XBOX continues its pace, it should have no problem lining up third party supporters. If you can wait and be patient, this is the system to get.
