Editorial Reviews :
Take the power and flexibility of a dedicated computer gaming system and combine it with the easy-to-use, instant-on format of a high-end console system and what do you get? Well, if you also add in DVD playback ability and broadband Internet connectivity, you get Xbox.
The advanced components inside Xbox make it the undisputed powerhouse among current game consoles. A 733 MHz Intel main processor and 233 MHz graphics processor from industry leader nVidia deliver photorealistic graphics in real time. A cavernous hard drive stores saved games and characters, making flimsy memory sticks obsolete. The built-in Ethernet port enables super-fast multiplayer online gaming over a broadband Internet connection. Four game controller ports allow you and three of your buddies to play at the same time, or you can use them for other peripherals such as gamepads, light guns, and who knows what else?

But Xbox has more going for it than fancy innards. The Xbox's Windows-based operating system is a breeze to program on, earning it grateful accolades from Electronic Arts, Infogrames, THQ, and other game producers. The less time developers spend struggling with the operating system means the more time they spend tweaking gameplay, which ultimately results in better games. And games are what it's all about.

Well, games and the fun of owning a green-glowing game console that looks like it came from Darth Vader's living room.--Mike Fehlauer

Buyer Reviews :
I have owned an XBOX since the day it came out, and although there have been times where I felt that I made the wrong decision (most notably whenever a Grand Theft Auto game comes out)in the long run I see that the XBOX is a great system, and for me, a person who really enjoys multiplayer play, the only choice. I think that thats in the end what it boils down to, if you like multiplayer play and have a broadband connection XBOX is the only way to go. If you like single player games more or don't care about playing with more than 4 people on one system then either of the other systems will do. Each system has its own selection of great games that aren't available on other systems. On the PS2 there is the GTAs and Gran Turismo, on the Gamecube there is Mario, Zelda, Starfox, Metroid, and all the games that use those characters. On the XBOX there Rallisport Challenge, Amped (2), and above all, HALO. When GTA: Vice City came out, my friend with a PS2 was all bragging about it was the best game ever on any system- it wasn't 2 weeks until we were back playing 8 person LAN games of HALO, sometimes at his house. My XBOX has seen a lot of use actually, and I've never had a single problem. XBOX Live is great, Nintendo really isnt even attempting online support for Gamecube and PS2's attempt is a joke: The only good non-sports game (SOCOM: US Navy Seals) requires that users have broadband anyway, even though PS2 'technically' supports dialup. Speaking of the sports games that are online for PS2, they all have a bug where a player can pause the game indefinately and wait for the other person to quit and thus garnering themselves the win. Since the PS2 doesnt have a hard drive they cant patch this error. Thats another thing, dont let any Sony fanboys tell you that XBOX is a ripoff because you have to buy the [$$$] DVD playback kit which comes with a remote. With the PS2 you have to buy a memory cards for every few games which are [$$$] each. XBOX has a built in hard drives so there really isnt a need for memory cards (although they are available if you want to, for example, move game saves to another XBOX). Bottom line: like multiplayer? XBOX has by far the best multiplayer support out of any system w/ it's 4 controller ports (as opposed to 2 on PS2), built in ethernet card for connecting to other XBOXs via system link, LAN, or for connecting to XBOX Live for online multiplayer play. With PS2 and gamecube you have to buy the ethernet card and there arent nearly as many games with online support (only 1 for gamecube). Over 100 XBOX Live supported games by the end of 2003!!! w00t!!!
