The person who came up with the phrase 'cheaters never prosper' obviously never had a GameShark. This device has already proven to be a must-own for hard-core gamers on other platforms--and now it finally arrives on the Dreamcast. For the uninitiated, GameShark temporarily modifies game code to enable special cheats... and we're happy to report that it works like a charm.
The shiny box includes a videotape that shows beginners how to get the most out of the device, a GD-ROM containing the boot-up software, several preinstalled cheat codes for a variety of games, and a small 'code holder' that attaches to the bottom port of your Dreamcast controller. To use the device, you just load the included GD-ROM, select the game you want to play from the list, and tell the GameShark which cheat codes to enable. Then you simply insert the game disc when prompted, and the cheat codes will be in effect as soon as the game launches, courtesy of the little black device attached to your game controller.
One nice thing about this GameShark is that you can use your Dreamcast's modem to connect to the official Web site to grab the latest codes. Otherwise you can enter them manually. We found that the GameShark was terrific for revisiting older games we've already beaten--and even better for blowing through rental games we had no plans to purchase. It's easy to use, and new codes are released regularly.
Special note to consumers: It has been reported that there are incorrect codes for the Dreamcast game Resident Evil: Code Veronica installed on the GD-ROM that accompanies the first generation of GameShark devices. Consumers who find that the preinstalled codes for this game do not work should visit the Interact Web site to obtain the correct codes.

Gameshark CDX is great for many games. It's got me out of many jams befor. But you should remember some things. Gameshark messes with the accually programing of the game. This will not hurt your disk, but may corrupt your saved game. Unlike the gameshark for other systems, the cdx can not have it's codes turned off to prevent the coruption of games. Also, the cdx doesn't allow you to create your own codes. and the last con is with the opening of many multi-player games, this device is now considered a menace to players who don't use it. But some pros of the gameshark is that it can help players who are stuck in certain games beat that one part. Plus with the internet options on dreamcast you don't even have to put in your own codes, just download them from the internet.(But I've never got the save codes from gameshark.com to work) The CDX can also be used as a memory card. I've also heard it has been used as a type of boot disk. Any type of hex edit code works on it, even code breaker codes. This is one of the most popular types of game hacking devices. So if you really want a dreamcast hex editor, Gameshark CDX for dreamcast one of the best.
