Bought the first copy of Bloodmoon I could find available in the Chicago area. Was already a little annoyed, as it is about a month late (and was hard to find in stores even *after* Bethesda promised it had already shipped). Bussed out 1 and 1/2 hours to a mall in the suburbs to grab a copy (their *one* copy)...
Installed it, that went fine. Played it ...
Within five minutes, it CTD'ed (Crashed to Desktop). I've been playing Morrowind and Tribunal for months, basically since it came out, with no serious bugs; occasional CTD or lockup, but really quite rare, maybe once or twice a month, usually when I fill up the Hard Disk. I restarted, and ... it happened again, 5 minutes. Hadn't even left Vvardenfell ...
I spent all of yesterday troubleshooting, something I consider myself quite good at (being a reformed Computer Tech). Updated video and sound drivers (the likely culprit being the latter); to no avail. Turned off Hardware acceleration on the sound card; nada. Still CTD every five minutes, usually when I open a door.
Basically, my recommendation is to wait until they release a major patch, at least for Windows 2000 users (which are allegedly fully supported here). Bethesda obviously skipped some important steps in the bug-testing process to get this out only a month left ... and released an unfinished product.
